Demarai Gray was coolness personified to salvage a draw for Blues on their St. Andrew's opener.
The winger scored with an emphatic penalty in the fifth-minute of added-time just as it looked as if Blues would be defeated by an impressive Bristol City side.
The award of the penalty itself sparked controversy, as did the decision to rule out Jhon Solis's goal in the 88th minute as Blues pushed to recover from an outrageous Dom Ballard strike.
Ballard found the roof of the net with an incredible backheel volley and that eye-popping goal gave Bristol a 2-1 advantge with five minutes on the clock.
