Blues admit they have taken an 'inordinate' amount of time in finding a successor to Craig Gardner as director of football.

But they are comfortable with how long the search has taken as they want to get the appointment spot on.

Carling Cup winner Gardner left his position in June after five years overseeing technical football operations and transfers.

Several candidates have been touted to be in the running for the job - which may yet be reframed as sporting director - including Paul Mitchell.
